Can you name the four states of Matter?

Quick now, don't look it up.

They are solid, liquid, gas, and ... plasma.

Plasma is a gas in which the atoms have been ionized. Electrons have been stripped from the atoms in plasma. It has magnetic and electrical fields that react to their environment.

The aurora borealis and lightening are both plasma.  The center of the sun is a plasma acting at 15 million degrees C.  This page has been started to argue that some sightings of "UFO's" are actually an unrecognized form of plasma.

This will a long slow project. My current efforts to solve the cause of student suicides and sudden unexplained disappearances will put this page on a back burner.

If electrons are stripped or missing then floating ionized plasma would have a positive charge. If it appears near the surface of the earth there would be instances of arcs from static charges within the earth and the positive charge from floating plasma.

Travis Walton was probably a victim of such an arc.

There is no doubt that floating static charges exist because ball lightening has been observed.

Ball lightening has been known through history. It has caused radiation type burns when humans came too close. It is said by some to never exceed a basket ball size object. Others claim that there have been school bus sized ball lightening events.

If it has a unitary charge then it can be propelled by massive electromagnetic pulses from lightening. As a static charge it can be directed by the difference in the charge between the Earth's surface and the ionosphere.

Cathode ray TV tubes direct the stream of electrons that strike the phosphor screen with magnetic coils.  But oscilloscopes have metal plates in the neck of the cathode ray tube and they direct the same stream of electrons with static charges on the four plates. (No, color TV tubes do not have colored streams of electrons. The electrons strike different phosphors which are excited to emit the three basic colors. There are three electron guns in color picture tubes. )

Lightening is now recognized to happen both below an above storm clouds.

MECOs

"A controversial alternative to black hole theory has been bolstered by observations of an object in the distant universe, researchers say. If their interpretation is correct, it might mean black holes do not exist and are in fact bizarre and compact balls of plasma called MECOs."

I

Interstellar Travel

At least one of the sites has a problem understanding Einstein's theory of relativity.

 ".... the Reticulan crew would not have to be going faster than the speed of light to pay a visit to our Solar Sys­tem and return facing the prospect of residence in a home for the elderly. Using Einstein's change factor, a one-way trip at 80 percent of the speed of light at a constant velocity would take them 13 years. At 99 percent of the speed of light, it would take them nine months but at 99.9 percent of that velocity, the trip could be made in only 27 days!"

Although the math might be true as stated it is a flawed argument. The people they left behind would have aged not the Reticulan Crew. Einstein's theory, validated here on earth, says that time slows for the ship occupants traveling near the speed of light but not for the home planet residents. This raises another problem with travel between the stars for trade purposes. What commodity would be worth the same after several hundred years  back home? What manufacturing process or scientific research using some element hauled from a distant star system would wait that many years. What trade goods would be valued so highly that vast efforts, measured in money on Earth, would be expended to transport them across space between stars?

The physics of time and space must be the same for alien visitors or their ships would not operate in our little corner of space. Many sightings show instantaneous acceleration and changes of direction. That is not possible under physics as we understand it for a body that has mass. Low mass probabilities  are static charges, ball lightening, or optical illusions involving distant light sources, including the sun and moon,  being reflected or ducted by atmospheric layers containing water or dust to allow reflectivity. Large distant buildings rising high enough would reflect sunlight under those conditions.

I will not pretend to be an expert in physics. I am aware of the charges between earth and sky in storm situations that cause lightening strikes. These events are visible from near earth orbit. You can find these pictures on line. Communications companies must drill wells to the water table and earth ground to protect some remote facilities from the lightning strike which is attracted  because of the static electric charges that move in the earth. Many of the sightings of reflective objects happen near earthquake zones. When reports are generated there is usually mention of  the possibility that the observed UFOs are static charges generated by movement of rock plates under the earth's surface at those locations. Volcanic gas may provide the chemistry needed to produce those illusions. The apparent shape of such an object would be determined by the total charge in the area. In a vacuum and without other magnetic or static voltage interference a floating static charge would take the form of a sphere. (see ball lightning paragraph below) Small particles such as dust and the by products of oxidation would move to the outer surface. The dark area under such floating charges might be carbon from oxidation of the material inside the closed surface of the charge.

All static charges can be directed by magnetism. That's how the Cathode Ray Tube in your computer monitor and conventional TV works. They can also be directed by other static charges. The oscilloscope tube works this way. Charged plates inside the tube, not magnetic windings, direct electrons to the phosphor on the screen. Once you understand this the phenomenon of dancing static charges in the atmosphere do not seem as alien as before.

If you view a computer simulation of the magnetic field of the earth you will see a dynamic force acting as the earth spins at 1000 miles per hour.  Static charges are suspended in the relative calm of our atmosphere. They have little mass and a large voltage charge. They act in complex concert with the dynamics of the location where they form or where they find temporary stasis. When you understand that lightening forms through accumulation of charge it is not hard to imagine another phenomenon can produce the many sightings reported.

NASA research reveals that the voltage potential difference between the upper atmosphere and the surface of the earth can be as high as 500,000 volts.  If you consider the two areas of static charge to be similar to the plates in the neck of an oscilloscope Cathode Ray Tube then the charge viewed as UFO's would be directed as that voltage is altered by electrical storms thousands of miles away from the sighting area.

Has there ever been a sighting of a UFO in a thunder storm? ... Why Not?

The phenomenon of observed silver objects can only happen where the conditions are correct to create them. In a heavy discharge area, thunder storm, the dynamics of the storm use all the electrical energy generated to create lighting. The lower order phenomenon, large floating static charges,  cannot exist. (see ball lightning next  subject)

There is one account of someone, Travis Walton, who approached a large object floating near the ground. He was struck by a discharge from the object. The story is that Aliens shot him with some type beam. All that probably happened is that just as you experience a shock when you touch your car in winter, he got a big shock as he approached near enough for the voltage of the static charge to bridge the gap to him.  The accumulated floating charge would have eventually dissipated or discharged to earth-ground naturally had he not approached. Such discharge  would cause a burned area. He was the lightning rod for a static discharge.  (This account is on several sites. I will find a link to it.)

Lightning is the discharge between static charges of different polarities.

Ball Lightning

The existence of ball lightning is disputed by some. This phenomenon is said to be a ball of electric charge never more that twelve inches in diameter. It is said to float near the ground during heavy thunderstorm activity. Reports are that it glows. There are sites that report stories of Ball Lightning as large as a bus. The links section has more than  you will ever want to know about Ball Lightning.

Propagation of Radio Signals due to atmospheric events

Ham radio operators all over the world are aware of the reflective properties of charged areas in the atmosphere. If you talk to a DX  operator he will tell you how he uses these different effects in the atmosphere to bounce signals around the world. Visible light is high frequency electromagnetic energy.

If ham radio signals can be bounced from electrically charged areas then radar may also bounce off these static charges.

If charged areas are proved to exist through radio propagation might they be associated with the phenomenon of glowing silver objects?

Lightening protection is necessary for Ham Radio transmitter installations with their tall towers. Lightning performs like high frequency radio energy. 

The Star Map

Betty had studied an article published in the New York Times about the constellation Pegasus. (one source dates that article to 1965. I thought I had a source placing the Times story before she drew the map. I will recheck this point. ) She has said her map was closer to the illustration in the Times. The map seen on most Internet sites is from research by Marjorie Fish. Betty's drawing is usually included. I cannot verify this but one source cites a letter to Fish in which Betty said the three dimensional star map was above her view point. The bottom of  the map was about her eye level. Betty's drawing seems to be from a vantage point above the alien 3D star map not below. Betty had help in drawing the aliens but I will have to check to see if she had help with the star map. The story I have is that the original map was drawn under hypnosis.

Another recent  interpretation of the Star Map points to the circular markings on the two globes said to be Zeta Reticuli 1& 2, then proposes the two globes are actually Saturn and Jupiter seen from a point past both, looking back toward the sun. In that scheme the Sun and Earth appear in the map. The belts on the globes are viewed as the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter. (This  would mean that the alien was pulling Betty's leg. Strange sense of humor those aliens had huh.)

The "alien base" referred to in Internet articles is actually a suggested match of star pattern visible only from Earth's  southern hemisphere. Marjorie Fish used the Von W. Gliese Catalogue of 1957. Researchers do not fault her work. But arguments against the match cite as much as a forty percent error possibility for some of the star locations. The number and quality of telescopes available to calculate this data from the southern hemisphere was low. This means that for the fifteen or so stars involved, a huge error in the data would spoil any calculation of a possible match. No matter the quality of the work GIGO, Garbage In Garbage Out. ( A long "Astronomy" magazine article is linked below. )

"After several run-throughs, he confirmed the positions determined by Marjorie Fish. "I was able to locate potential areas of error, but no real errors," Steggert concludes.

Steggert zeroed-in on possibly the only real bone of contention that anyone had with Marjorie Fish's interpretation: The data on some of the stars may not be accurate enough for us to make definitive conclusions. For example, he says the data from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Catalog, the Royal Astronomical Society Observatory Catalog, and the Yale Catalog of Bright Stars "have differences of up to two magnitudes and differences in distance amount to 40 percent for the star Gliese 59". Other stars have less variations in the data from one catalog to another, but Steggert's point is valid. The data on some of the stars in the map is just not good enough to make a definitive statement. (The fact that measurements of most of the stars in question can only be made at the relatively poorly equipped southern hemisphere observatories accounts for the less reliable data.)"

An Australian astronomy site mentions current measurements of 100,000 stars. This is a monthly column and will change.  This is the quote the site gives.

"Four degrees directly north of NGC 1313 is the fine optical pair of Sun-like stars, Zeta Reticuli 1 & 2 (3h 18m, -62° 30'), much beloved of UFO buffs as one of the home places of alien visitors (do a Web search on Zeta Reticuli and you'll see what I mean). Makes an excellent binocular pair 5 arcminutes apart, and if you're really sharp-eyed you can resolve the mag. 5.2/5.5 stars with the unaided eye. They are relatively close at 39 light years from us. According to one reference, they lie about 3 l.y. from each other, which would put them too far apart to be physically connected, but as they have the same proper motion through space, possibly they may be the remains of a disrupted binary system (my speculation)."

Accidental Operant Conditioning 

Operant conditioning usually does not  work well  with humans. This is because we have knowledge of self and of our surroundings. We are aware of the source when we snap the red rubber band on our wrist every time we have a craving for a cigarette. We can see the oinking pig every time we open the refrigerator door for a snack.

Accidental Operant Conditioning is devastating because it happens subliminally. Once you habituate notice of movement which is of a nature to cause a peripheral vision reflex, your conscious mind loses knowledge of that movement. That knowledge cannot be regained because the detection of movement in peripheral vision happens subliminally.

The internal brain signal to cause a peripheral vision reflex has no complex meaning. It also has no source the brain can use to identify it. Your brain normally forms your reality from memory and from neural impulses from sensors. Those are eyes, ears, skin, and a system including ambient vision and the balance system of the inner ear.

As your mind attempts to reconcile this un-sourced input you drift to delusional and psychotic episodes. 

The different models of timing, frequency, and total exposure over time, determine the outcome. Each  person's outcome will be different. .....

 The thrust of the discussion should be that Alien Abductions should be considered as a sub-category of Culture Bound Syndromes, DSM (Diagnostic Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association), briefly discussed on the Chaco Canyon page.

Victims of Alien Abductions are not lying. They did have an experience and memories of it. Some have ongoing experiences. They do have missing time for instance. The question is where and why the event happened. This page suggests that after you eliminate obvious hoaxes all the remaining abductions happen in the mind.  Understanding the conflict of physiology is critical.

A stated purpose of this site is to inform the public of the problem of physiology. If  you have contacts within the administrators of colleges or local school districts send them to this site to read College Suicides, Missing Students, and ...Prevention... at the bottom of most pages.
