Albert Dadas

Dadas was a French gas company repairman. He is noted for vanishing and walking across Europe and Russia.

He reached places like, Algeria, Moscow, and Constantinople.

When discovered by authorities in these places he was shipped back to France.

If you carefully research, Dadas was a company bookkeeper who also performed outside repairs. That information is important to understand what caused the phenomenon.   Dadas was susceptible for Subliminal Distraction when  he worked as bookkeeper. When the problem was recognized, doctors in other countries began to look for fuguers in local populations.   They found other cases.  It eventually, over a period of about 25 years, the behavior was found  in Italy, then Germany, and Russia.

There will not be much evidence available since these events happened over a hundred thirty years ago. The case is made by the number of the "mysteries" of mental illness that can be explained by Subliminal Distraction.

Subliminal Distraction can be implicated in the fact that all the victims were artists, artisans, and shop keepers. There were no outdoor workers such as game keepers, or farmers.

In his book "Mad Travelers: Reflections on the Reality of Transient Mental Illnesses," Ian Hacking recounts the story.   But Hacking was completely unaware of Subliminal Distraction.

The diagnosis of the time, 1880's France was  pathological tourism.

These disappearances are still happening today, usually to college students, and home computer users.   Occasionally a case draws national attention.

Unaware of Subliminal Distraction, psychiatrists blame psychosocial causes, stress, the frailty of the human psyche, or even previously experienced trauma.  No one screens for Subliminal Distraction exposure before beginning treatment for mental illness.

Of course some of the college disappearances are crime or accidents.    But students recover and return or are found in altered mental states to show a mental event happened to cause the disappearance.   Another group are never found. If you reached this page from a search engine, go to the Disappearances page for other cases.

Today we think of incorrectly designed high traffic offices or computer work stations with detectable movement in peripheral vision. But remember this problem was discovered and solved, 1964/68, before computers existed.

The problem arises from normal features in everyone's physiology of sight. It would have begun to cause symptoms we today understand as mental illness when the first modern humans stopped roosting in trees for overnight protection and began to build too-small single-room living arrangements.

If you have not done so read the pages that explain the human physiology involved on the Home page and this first explanation page. Here.
